Raised on a farm in the Missouri river bottoms, Dan Brueggeman developed an early appreciation of wildlife and the out-of-doors. During college, he worked for the Missouri Department of Conservation on several of their wildlife areas while pursuing a degree in wildlife conservation.

After college, the artist worked for several years as a conservation agent for the state of Missouri. It wasn't until the fall of 1984 that the artist encountered his future vocation. He met a decoy carver and was fascinated by the amount of realism obtainable in wood sculpture. He started his first decoy the following week, and though it bears little resemblance to today's works, it is still the most prized piece in his collection. The following year, with the encouragement of his wife and family, Dan left his regular job to pursue a full time career in wildlife art.

In addition to the original waterfowl, Dan has expanded his focus to encompass songbirds, fish, game birds, mammals and raptors. He has been juried into most of the country's most prestigious wildlife art shows, and has been honored with numerous awards, including several "Best of Show" awards. His carvings currently grace many private and corporate art collections.

In addition to membership in many conservation-related organizations, Dan is a past president and current treasurer of the Missouri Wildlife Artists Society.
