Ann Grotjan is a potter and sculptor with experience with many types of media. She has worked in bronze, hydrastone, resin and paper, as well as clay...and has presently settled on stoneware as her favorite medium. Most of her work begins on the potter's wheel before it is incised, altered and decorated. She frequently uses the color of the clay body as a design element.

Intricate carving, piercing or sculpting on the surface sets Ann's work apart from the ordinary thrown vessel. The inspiration for her work is generally organic, whether it is abstract or realistic. "It might be the curve of a lizard's body and tail, or the flight of a soaring hawk. I am very interested in nature and it never ceases to amaze me, the variety and number of subjects nature has to offer for my work."

Some of Ann's work is sculptural and made strictly as decorative art pieces, but she also produces functional tableware and cookware. In addition to a large number of custom orders, Ann produces a line of garden related pottery that includes planters, herb tags, bird feeders and bird baths.
